Seriously, we are talking psycho crazy witch lady. Demented. Deranged. Nutter. And, she has some really good lines.

While this loony witch doesn't have a lot of "screen" time, her presence is felt throughout this nifty little book.

Belle...I mean, Beauty (freaking guest song is in my head now...must.not.kill.self.) has amazing snarky lines, and Will isn't too far behind her. These two despise each other at first. So naturally they're meant to live happily ever after (oh come on, anyone who doesn't live in a subway tunnel...sorry Vincent...knows how this story turns out, and if you have been living in a whole in the ground, you probably deserve to see the movie first...song is in head again...aaaaaargh!)

I really liked that the "Beast" was innocent this time - he didn't deserve the curse, he just kind of got it by accident. So he didn't have to make amends for anything. And seriously, if you were trapped in a house with talking walls and rooms that roam and a rose bush for a sister for 90 years, you might be in a bad mood, too.

Father? Evil. Should be beaten and fed to beast - he can make an exception to the "no eating humans" rule once.

Step-Mom? Hope it turns out OK for her (well that's a switch). She needs a new husband. He might offer her up as a sacrifice next.

Drew? Schmuck!

Violet? Well, we never actually meet you, so we hope you get some "stage" time if there's a sequel. Or a re-boot.

Seriously, a really cool take on Beauty and the Beast. One afternoon was all it took.

But honestly - what the heck does the cover have to do with the

The Curse Girl Kate Avery Ellison 9781461197942 Books Reviews

This book was well-written, and that is about the best thing I can say about it. Another Beauty (actually her name-rather lame) and the Beast story, which has been done to death, was bad enough, but trying to make sense of a town believing in witches and curses in everyday 21st century life was stretching it a bit too far. But throw in trips to the Fae lands, where vampires, evil faeries and evil elves live, (almost everything is evil and dangerous there) and it just becomes too outlandish and disappointing to be tolerated. Then you have a girl who does origami and makes things manifest (which was never explained) and at the end, when the curse is broken, everyone leaves to find life in 21st century America (don't worry, we'll find you all jobs even though you are from hundreds of years ago and were trapped in an evil house that the whole town fears and wants no part of!)

I'm sorry to rate an author so low, especially since it was well-written and I didn't see any egregious grammatical errors. But the concept was just so poorly delivered and the plot so disappointing, that I felt it was such a waste of my time.
Bee is an average high school girl, with friends, schoolwork, and a boyfriend she likes a lot. But all that changes when her father makes the mistake of entering the "hunted" house in their town. For his actions Bea will suffer the consequences. She is to about to discover that the house in its recipients are aren't what everyone makes them out to be. The house is magical. The only solace in the house is Liam, the beast imprisoned in the basement at night. The downside to the house? The owner of the house who acts like a beast.

Will isn't looking forward to having a human in the house but doesn't have a choice. Beauty gets under his skin and he finds it hard to be nice to her when having to deal with his predicament. Will is cursed and he's about to find out that Beauty isn't what he makes her out to be.

Will Beauty ever be able to leave the house or be a prisoner forever? Will she be able to save Will?

The Curse Girl is a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast so I was excited to delve into it. Bee is your typical innocent girl who doesn't want to leave her life behind. She's upset and looking for a way out of the hell her father put her in. Will is an arrogant jerk and his sister is always playing referring between the two. As Will and Beauty are forced to work together they slowly grow attached to each other which makes the relationship believable.

Why the 3.5 Stars? I felt the story was rushed and that at times the characters were boring to read about. The story had a lot of potential and I wished that there were more action and less of Bee's inner ramblings. Although the book provided a twist to the fairytale it was still bland. My rating was more because of the spunk in Bea and the sweet/mean parts in Will.

If you want a quick light fairytale retelling you just might enjoy this.
