I loved this book. In fact, I read all three in the series one right after the other. The book t is funny, the characters are interesting, I liked the small town Texas Hill Country setting, and the Christian overtones. I got the recommendation to read it from my daughter (a college English teacher) and once I read the books I recommended them to my sister. My only complaint is there is no book four. I enjoyed all the characters and their complex emotions..... and the comfy small town happenings. Can't wait to read the next one
This book is a great escape novel. It's the story of a minister in a small town,
the "widows" who think they run the church; and their efforts to find him a wife. Heart warming, clean, and fun to read. I highly recommend it!
Welcome to small town America. The characters are funny, charming, and at times aggravating. But the life of a young pastor who is called to this church makes for an entertaining story. I look forward to reading more in this series.
It was nice to read a story, where there isn't a lot of violence and sex. While reading you can in-vision the town, church and characters. It was quite a nice story. When I finished I wanted to know what happens to the various characters next, so I bought the next book. Looking forward to visiting with the people of Butternut Creek.
A delightful book best describes this novel! Add warm, witty, romantic and sweet, and you have a full description. The "widows" of Butternut Creek are matchmakers such as you may not have seen before. Determined to get single men and women together, they use whatever means they have, some they even invent as needed.
In this book, we meet a veteran of war, a Captain, who has suffered the loss of his leg plus other trauma. Add in a physical therapist with two young sons, and the widows see Opportunity with a capital O! I'm still laughing as I write this. Not to spoil your reading of this gem, I'll say no more, except "Enjoy and be Blessed!" 😂
Would not read it again so I'm giving it away. Background characters are much more interesting than the main character. I wish there was a second book about the background characters rather than a second and third book about the main character. Definitely not buying the sequels. Good enough for a few days when I was terribly bored but that's about it.
Butternut Creek is a little town complete with old Victorian houses, church social events, enthusiasm for high school football games and their marching bands, and kindly busybodies. The story centres around the new pastor, who is a young man in his twenties and another young man who has returned from military service minus one leg. They aren't the "welcome committee". The committee is composed of two older ladies who see themselves as matchmakers and who meddle in the lives of these men, and others, with positive intentions. But you could look on the entire town as a welcome committee because they do all seem to look out for each other.
This was a delightful story, made more so by the skillful narration in Audible format. The narrator was able to portray many individuals, both male and female, with distinctly different voices.
On the strength of this book I have already purchased the second in the series.
